They Steal Our Hearts

Only a Pet Lover understands the shared bond of unconditional love between a pet and their owner.

In 2017, according to WalletHub’s 2017’s Most Pet-Friendly Cities survey, Austin was the highest ranked city in Texas, the Nation’s 7th Most Pet-Friendly City.

Some People Love Their Pets More Than They Love Other Humans, According to a Study which was published in the Society and Animals journal. I don’t know if I fall into that category, but I can tell you I never met an animal I didn’t like and many times the encounter was a Love at First Site experience.

Growing up I was fortunate to have parents who were raised with pets and who knew the value of a companionship shared between a child and their pet and the significant role it would play, teaching the child about responsibility, compassion, patience, love and the stages of life.

My husband, Jim and I have 5 rescue dogs, Honey, Annie, Jackson, Jasmine and Eddie. Each has their own special story and each of them has a unique personality but the one thing they do share is their eagerness to shower us with endless love.

Their behavior and mannerisms have an uncanny resemblance to our children at ages 3 and 5. They whine if they’re not the center of attention, they’d rather walk over us then around us and they never say ‘Excuse Me’, they always get the best spots in bed, they know which of us is the softie and they play it to their advantage and they get credit for originating for the phrase –  Some for you, Some for you, Some for you,  Some for you, Some for you and Some for me because for the last 5 years if we were lucky to get 1/6 of anything we were eating it was an accomplishment. They are The Mosner 5.

When we rescued them, we made a commitment to each that would last their lifetime. We promised: we would never abandon them when they are old or got sick, we would always make sure they have access to Veterinary care, we would always make sure they have food and water, we would always provide them a warm and comfortable shelter, we would not let anyone or anything hurt them and we would love them unconditionally as they love us.

If you’re looking for a best friend who is committed to provide unconditional love, stop by your local animal shelter – Someone Special is Waiting for You.

It is all of our responsibility to be the voice for those that have been silenced and advocate for those that are abused. In many cases, you may be the only chance an animal has at escaping cruelty or neglect.

What is Defined as Animal Abuse, Cruelty and Neglect?

What can you do to stop and prevent animal cruelty?

  • Be a responsible pet owner.
  • Be an example of kindness to other pets.
  • Intervene if you witness animal cruelty, abuse or neglect.
  • Report animal cruelty, abuse or neglect.
  • Teach your children to have respect for animals.
  • Demand stricter laws for the protection of animals.
  • Shelter an animal in need.

How to Report Abuse

  • If you witness suspected cruelty to animals, call your local animal control agency as soon as possible or dial 9-1-1 if you’re unfamiliar with local organizations. If you make a report of alleged animal cruelty, the responding agency is required to investigate.
  • If your area lacks the proper animal welfare agency and your local authorities are not equipped to deal with animal cruelty cases, you can also contact us.
  • Be sure to document the case as well as you can with dates, times, specific details and, if possible, footage and photographs from a cell phone. All of these things can help appropriate agencies during any investigation they may do of the suspected cruelty.
